Snapchat is Growing Nearly Twice as Fast as Instagram
Launched in 2011, Snapchat quickly climbed the ranks of popular social media apps. Last year, nearly 550 million people worldwide used the app to share snippets of their daily lives, a significant increase from the 245 million users reported in 2018. This impressive growth follows Snapchat’s efforts to offer users a unique photo and video sharing experience. To date, the platform has launched over a hundred features, including Stories, Spectacles, Spotlight, voice filters, and Bitmoji TV.
Although Snapchat still lags far behind Facebook and Instagram in total user numbers, it is set to record the highest annual growth among top social media platforms, with its user base increasing by 13.4% in 2023. This means Snapchat’s user base is growing nearly twice as fast as Instagram, which is projected to see a 7.9% increase this year. Snapchat’s growth rates are even more impressive compared to Facebook, the number one platform in the social media space. According to eMarketer, Facebook is expected to experience the smallest annual increase among leading social media platforms, just 1%. TikTok follows closely behind Snapchat, with a user increase of 12.7% in 2023. On the other hand, Twitter is the only platform expected to see a decline in its user base, decreasing by 2.7% year over year.
More than 670 Million People Expected to Use Snapchat by 2027
Over the past five years, more than 300 million people have started using Snapchat to share photos and videos. It is the most popular social network among teenagers, particularly in the United States, where nearly 60% of users aged 13-24 use it daily. The growing popularity among younger generations is expected to bring Snapchat around 90 million new users within four years. According to Statista, the app is projected to reach approximately 674 million users and achieve new heights by 2027.
