Despite the ever-changing landscape of social media with new players emerging, no platform rivals Facebook in terms of social media advertising. With approximately 2.9 billion active users, Facebook remains the top choice for marketers in both B2B and B2C sectors. According to OnlyAccounts.io, around 90% of marketers opted for Facebook for social media advertising in 2023, a figure that surpasses Instagram by 10% and is three times greater than TikTok.

53% of Marketers Plan to Increase Facebook Use in the Future

Although Facebook is one of the older players in the social media arena, it continues to be the primary choice for most marketers. Research by Social Media Examiner shows that Facebook was the most frequently used social media platform among global marketers in 2023, with 89% using the network to promote their businesses.

Instagram ranked as the second most frequently used platform for social media advertising, with an 80% share among respondents. Nearly 65% of marketers chose to advertise on LinkedIn, making it the third most used platform. YouTube and Twitter followed with shares of 54% and 44%, respectively. The statistics reveal that only 26% of respondents identified TikTok as their top platform for social media advertising, three times less than Facebook.

The research also uncovered interesting insights into how marketers plan to use social media platforms in the coming years. Approximately 53% of them stated they would increase their use of Facebook in the near future, while only 5% planned to reduce their Facebook ad budgets. The statistics also show that 66% of marketers will increase their use of Instagram and YouTube, compared to 43% who plan to boost advertising on TikTok. At the same time, 45% of them did not plan to use the video-sharing app for advertising at all.

Meta Holds 55% of the Global Social Media Advertising Market

With brands investing billions annually in Facebook and Instagram ads, Meta remains the largest player in the global social media advertising landscape. According to Statista, Meta held a massive 55% market share last year, nearly four times more than LinkedIn, the second-largest social media advertising brand. Snapchat, Reddit, Pinterest, Twitter, and ByteDance each held about 5% of the global social media ad revenue. Last year, brands spent a staggering $189.5 billion on social media advertising. Statista forecasts that this amount will rise to $207 billion in 2023 and then soar to $247 billion by 2027.
